The Megaproject-based Firm: Building programme management capability to deliver megaprojects

The rapid growth in demand for large-scale infrastructure around the world calls a new type of organisation, which we label Megaproject-based Firm (MBF). We conceptualise MBF as core permanent entity that delivers multiple megaprojects with partners project networks, several large temporary organisations crossing boundaries firm. use 78 interviews to identify how learning within and between these has enabled firm build programme management capabilities over time. Our results show adaptability, flexibility, design roles responsibilities clients delivery are critical ingredients management. Megaprojects should be delivered through collaborative relationship clients, not clients. involvement series parallel sequentially offers capability building challenge firms, adding literature on project-based firms capabilities.
